CIRCULAR MODEL

Rök Glacier Water has made a pledge to ensure that all of our packaging works within a circular economy. Unlike a traditional linear model that consistently requires new raw materials to replace what’s been used, 100% of our packaging materials can be recycled and reintroduced into our processes - right down to the labels painted on our cans. By only using what we already have, we are able to maintain a sustainable model without adding any pre or post-consumer waste to an already crowded ecosystem.

Our Operations

Our canning facility was designed with sustainability in mind. rök’s industry-leading canning and carbonation process has allowed us to reduce our wastewater output to a third of that of a traditional canning system, and natural gas power, energy-efficient light fixtures, and innovative use of natural lighting keeps our energy use much lower than in a normal facility. Rök Glacier Water is a sustainable company literally from the ground up.

UNTOUCHED WILD

The Rocky Mountains are home to some of the most magnificent, untouched wilderness in the world, and we want to keep it that way. Rök Glacier Water is collected and stored using our existing Fortress Mountain pipeline infrastructure before being transported to our canning facility, avoiding any access or mountain roads that may contain wildlife traffic. By planning our storage and transportation strategies we are able to provide a truly natural product while keeping our environmental footprint as low as possible.

SUSTAINable SOURCE

Nature’s gift is ours to protect. Preventing overharvesting of our water source is crucial to maintaining a sustainable enterprise built on a renewable resource. That’s why we only collect less than 3% of the glacier’s annual flow - that’s 10 minutes of water flow PER YEAR. By limiting our collection to this small amount we are allowing our source to replenish itself naturally with little or no impact on the local ecosystem.

ENERGY INTENSITY

Rök Glacier Water is striving to keep its energy consumption as small as possible. Aluminum cans boost shipping efficiency up to 50% over bottles, and the truck fleet we contract is powered by ultra-low sulphur diesel, which increases their fuel efficiency while reducing their emissions. We also track all of our transportation emissions in order to streamline and improve our process every step of the way.

FLOWS HERE, NOT FLOWN HERE

We didn’t have to cross oceans to find perfection. Rök Glacier Water has only one source - the natural rock glacier hidden beneath Fortress Mountain in the majestic Rockies of Alberta. Our water isn’t flown thousands of miles around the globe, but instead, it is collected and canned in our own backyard. This model consumes 3 to 6 times less energy than imported premium water by the time it hits store shelves in western Canada.

ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY

For over 50 years, Fortress Mountain Resort has protected the natural beauty of its corner of the Rocky Mountains. In fact, our resort predates the Kananaskis park system by more than a decade! We’ve seen a lot of changes in that time, but our mission remains the same: to promote world-class sport, fitness, mental wellness and tourism in Alberta. With the proceeds generated by rök Glacier Water, our goal is to return Fortress Mountain Resort to its former glory, create new jobs, and promote sustainable, responsible economic activity in our community.

GIVING BACK

Just like our circular economic model, we are a company built on giving back. Our plans for the future include educational grants, charitable support, and additional funding that will help our local community grow and thrive. Check back often for the latest news and announcements regarding these opportunities.
